This is an illustrated recreation I made of the 6th century Byzantine ivory diptych known as the "Barberini Ivory" now found at the Louvre Museum in Paris. The artwork depicts the Byzantine emperor Anastasius I at the center on his horse which is symbolic of his victory over the Sassanid Persians whereas above him are angels watching over him, to his right is a soldier, and below are foreign emissaries (Persians and Indians) offering the emperor presents.
